Update on my Nuera Mayte
We're having trouble getting the whole story from Guadalajara but here's what we know so far. Mayte had an operation at 8am Saturday but later in day had complications and had some more work done. Not sure what. She is still in the hospital, in some pain but ready to come home. Thank you for your letters of concern. Donna forwarded them to Mayte.

Chef Mayte
If you have been coming to the Roadrunner fairly frequently, you have probably met our manager, daughter-in-law and favorite person of all times, Mayte. This is her with husband Pat, Donna's son. Without her, the Roadrunner Cafe would not run near as well. She is responsible for all of our delicious soups and many of our main dishes. Also, she provides our menu each Wednesday for the open mic night.
I will post a more complete bio about her later but I'm writing this to let you know that she is in Guadalajara with a bad case of gallstones. Nothing life threatening but will require surgery and a bit of recovery time. We should have her back in a couple of weeks or a bit more.

Photosynth Panoramic Photo Taken From IPhone
I have a couple of things for you. First, here is a panorama of the Roadrunner last Sunday. The motorcycle club, "los Californios" are having breakfast with a bunch of our other customers. They cruise in a couple of times a month while taking a Sunday ride. Nice bunch of guys.
Second, I'm playing with a new app on my iphone called 'photosynth.' Way cool app. Load the app, touch the screen and move the viewfinder until you've captured the area you want to make a panoramic photo. Touch done and you're done. The app automatically takes a bunch of individual photos as you move the camera, then stitches them all together to create the panoramic photo. Click and drag right or left to see more of the photo.

Lord of the Winds, Second Day
Day one at the Lord of the Winds went well. Lots of wind, lots of food, lots of people and lots of fun. Donna's Niece and Nephew and their little helper Addie made some dyn-o-mite pulled pork sandwiches. If you get there for lunch, you'll want to try one!
Here's Addie playing my Strat. Isn't she cute?
I mentioned before that the contest has attracted some big time TV coverage. The Travel Channel has a nice page, click the link to check it out. You can also see live coverage at Epicsessions.TV. Below I've embedded the live video from Epicsessions. They should be live all day.

Roadrunner Cafe at Lord of the Winds
Come see us on the beach at the "Lord of the Winds" tournament this weekend. The crew will be serving up some great breakfast and lunch food. While you're there, walk over to the Palmas hotel and check out the sand castle builders. Pretty awesome stuff!
The competition starts today, Friday, Jan. 13. The forecast calls for wind so come on down and check these guys and gals out. They are incredible!
If you missed last Wednesday's music night, slap yourself. By all accounts (especially my own biased account) it was really good.

From Alaska to Chile on Bicycles
Hi, Bob here. I had an interesting talk with a patron the other day. He rode in on a bicycle that was obviously loaded for long distance. Turns out he started at the farthest North point in the US, Prudhoe Bay Alaska and is riding to the end of the road in Chile. His name is Lee Saville and was riding with Ian Lacey. Lee continued at La Paz and Lee will follow. You can check out their photos and videos at the website '350South'

Open Mic for Jan 4, 2012
This Wednesday's open mic has the potential to be real good. Besides our regulars, there will most likely be some visitors like the young man Colin who wowed us last week. There's a good chance that one or two of our seasonal regulars will be coming. Dan from la Ribera said he would try to come.
You musicians who come, please keep in mind that Kay won't be there to track the list. I will be doing it. So be patient.
Other than the good music, Donna and Mayte have a nice Jalisco style Mexican combo plate planned for dinner. It will include: Chicken, potatoes, rice, a quesadilla and soup. All for 120 pesos. Drinks and desserts are available also.
Dinner starts at 6, music before 7. Join us for a fun evening of good music, good conversation and good food.
