Roadrunner Cafe Open Mic T-Shirts!

We finally got our Open Mic t-shirts printed. The design was taken from a '40s era menu cover that Donna reproduced on her computer. These are great looking shirts with our logo on the front and "Open Mic Night 2012" on the back above the artwork and "Los Barriles BCS Mexico" below the artwork. They are prewashed 100% cotton. We have sizes Med to XL in the colors shown for 140 pesos or $12 US; XXL in White and Dark Blue only for 150 pesos or $13 US. Available at the Roadrunner Cafe.

Donna and Bob: Year in Review

Merry Christmas to all. May 2013 bring you peace and prosperity. We had a good 2012 despite hitting a tope (local speed bump) or two a bit hard...  Just for fun, here are some highlights of our year.

Roadrunner open mic:

This is the 4th or 5th year of open mic. It just gets better and better. We have really good local talent! Guitar players, bass players, harmonica players, piano players, mandolin players, you name it, somebody in town can play it. AND almost every week there is a visitor who shows up and completely astounds us. We had our first honest to goodness bluegrass banjo picker all the way from the Czech republic come last week. Wow! Sounded like Earl Scruggs his own self! The crowd went CRAZY! Czech him out here.

Last February, we decided to work with the guild scholarship program to help the local school kids pay for their education. School here isn't free; the high school kids pay around $450 a year US. Because of the cooperation and generosity of our spectators, we were able to collect over $8000 US last year. You guys are the BEST!!

In June we took a trip to Tlaquepaque which is a suburb of Guadalajara with our nuera (daughter in law). We stayed at her house, wandered all over town and ate really well. While we were there, we took a side trip to Veracruz to investigate the possibility of buying coffee to roast. In the nearby town of Coatepec, we made connections for coffee and a roaster.
While there, I had a small cyst removed from my neck. If you're queasy, don't look.
The wife of our coffee bean connection is a biologist. Somehow she has become a drop point for hurt birds. She nurses them back to health and they are returned to wild. Somehow a large owl became a pet and is there permanently.
So the result of this story is that we now serve fresh roasted coffee at the Roadrunner Cafe! You can buy it for your home also, ground or in beans from the Roadrunner Cafe, Jose's Deli and Exotic Hammocks (Paul's shop next to el Viejo).

Donna keeps adding products to her bakery list. She's making real bagels now, boiled and baked. DELICIOUS!  You can buy fresh pastries and bread daily inside at the Roadrunner and you can call for special orders as well. 124-8038

Most of my friends have heard me mumbling under my breath about our remodel "hobby." You know, a hobby is something you do all the time in your spare time, no?? Well believe it or don't, we are getting close to the end!! YEEEE HAAAAAA!!!!

We took a couple of trips to the states. No problems on the roads; everything went well. I had an old Fender Jaguar guitar that my brother in law painted up in Oregon, then got it rebuilt.

Also while I was in Oregon my middle son Wayne showed me he could play a guitar and sing at the same time. It's harder than it looks!!!   We went to turtle releases. I got another guitar. We went to the races. All in all, it was a great year. May we all enjoy peace and prosperity in the upcoming year.

Real Bagels!!!

Bagels fresh from Donna's bakery. These are the real deal: boiled and baked just like the delis on the East coast. Not just baked like are available everywhere. We have cheese, sesame, seeded garlic, raisin, kalamata olive and onion. We serve these how you like them: plain, or with cream cheese and as the bread for a breakfast bagel sandwich.
